Background & Current Response:
On October 3, 2016, a Category 4 hurricane struck Haiti, a nation with weak infrastructure, inadequate alert systems and environmental degradation. Haitian officials have now reported at least 1000 deaths, a number which could continue to rise. The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs also reported that 350,000 residents were in need of immediate aid.
Because of our longstanding relationship with churches throughout Haiti, World Relief has a built-in system to deliver that aid, one that empowers local leaders in Haiti lead their own relief efforts.
